What is Active Manuka Honey?
Bees gather pollen from the flowers of the Manuka Bush with the honey making process being enriched by the pollution free environment of New Zealand and Australia. Certain types of Manuka Honey have been observed to have some special healing properties. While it is not fully understood why only some Manuka Honey has the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) antibacterial property, researchers agree that unlike regular honey, active Manuka Honey has
positive healing properties for a variety of skin conditions. In fact, many hospitals and medical practitioners are using active [UMF+10] Manuka Honey
for wound treatment. The presence of this UMF property, discovered by Dr Peter Molan, can be detected by laboratory testing, which is conducted by
an independent laboratory, Envirohealth, with the approval of the Honey Research Unit at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Honey that is tested and verified is given a UMF rating and is referred to as 'Active'.
Use of Manuka Honey as a Skin Treatment
